Alcohol and Drug Use Warning Signs
- Avoids close contact with you upon arriving home.
- Short answers. Won’t look you in the eyes.
- Coming home late after curfew.
- Changes in sleep patterns – sleeping too much, sleeping very little, trouble falling asleep, or difficulty staying asleep.
- Speech is slurred. Talking excessively and rapidly.
- Eyes are red, watery, or glassy. Pupils are larger or smaller than usual.
- Staggering or walking very slowly.
- Poor motor coordination – clumsy,dropping things they are holding.
- Change in appetite. Unexplained weight loss or gain.
- Shaking hands. Sweaty hands. Cold hands.
- Unusual skin bruises or marks. Rashes around nose and mouth.
- Poor hygiene. Neglecting appearance. Not bathing.
- Unexplained nose bleeds. Runny nose. Excessive sniffing, hacking and or cough.
- Smoky smell on clothes. Smell of alcohol on breath.
- Throwing up. Excessive sweating. Complaints of feeling faint or dizzy.
- Shaking and/or twitching, of hands, legs and feet.
- Puffy, pale and/or blotchy face and skin.
- Excessive nervousness, irritability, and anxiety.
- Pounding heartbeat. High blood pressure.
- Paranoid, irrational, or bizarre thoughts.
